@mszcannabeech | Friendly Aussie Podcast – Episode 18

Listen to ‘The Friendly Aussie Podcast’ Here!

The Eighteenth Episode of the Friendly Aussie Podcast is a meandering discussion with a new member of the Australian cannabis community – @mszcannabeech on Instagram.

This is yet another episode that’s over an hour long. We do our best to stay on track, but we ultimately end up exploring so many paths that just have little-to-nothing to do with cannabis… apart from the obvious truth that we’re only talking about these topics because we’re stoned. It’s pretty gripping stuff, honestly.

G (aka mszcannabeech) is not a seasoned cannabis smoker, by any means. If anything, her journey into cannabis is still something of a novelty.

Her first experiences were as a teenager, with her friends – and they weren’t all that positive. G reports experiencing awful anxiety – and Joe suggests that it could have been shit weed… perhaps even PGR.

In any case, these early experiences repelled the young mszcannabeech away from the plant. She could hardly smell it without bad memories being brought up.

Yet, Joe’s obsession with cannabis had an influence on G – one which eventually led her to try it again, around six-to-eight months ago.

mszcannabeech on her Recent Experiences in the Cannabis Culture

These days, mszcannabeech has seen the light. Cannabis has now practically replaced alcohol – a longtime favourite for her – as the substance of choice. G reports a variety of positive experiences that have emerged from this strange medicinal herb.

Of course, some things have changed between then and now. For one, she has quit smoking tobacco and slowed way down on her alcohol consumption, which has led to improvements in her health. G is also quite particular with her administration methods, as bongs tend to leave her coughing up a lung.

Mszcannabeech is definitely a vape gal, through and through. She’ll also have the occasional joint, or an edible over the course of an evening.

mszcannabeech on Whether she Identifies as a Stoner

G isn’t sure whether to take the moniker of ‘stoner’ on, wearing it with pride… or whether it simply doesn’t describe her, the kind of person that she is. Of course, Mszcannabeech smokes daily… but still, doesn’t consider herself a ‘stoner’. Ultimately, however, she can see that she is, nominally, a member of the cannabis community.

The negative stereotypes surrounding the cannabis community which have developed into a media narrative in recent decades – that we are lazy and unintelligent addicts – are informing the image of the ‘stoner’ which G has in mind.

We ultimately decide that it’s important to reclaim the meaning of the word – ‘stoner’, as shorthand for ‘cannabis user’, can be used as a description for a widely diverse group of people. What they all share is that they use cannabis.
