What is cannabis education?

Cannabis education is plain, honest information about the plant: how it works, how people use it, what the law says and how to stay safe. In Australia most of that information has lived in forums, rumours and the back of a headshop. FAB has been putting it in one place since 2018.

Vaporising vs smoking

Dry herb vaporisers heat cannabis enough to release the cannabinoids and terpenes without burning it. Most people notice more flavour, less smell and less harshness, and you get more out of the same amount of flower. Our vaporiser guides cover conduction vs convection, temperatures and the gear we actually rate.

Medicinal cannabis and generics in Australia

Medicinal cannabis has been legal on prescription in Australia since 2016, and most products are prescribed through the TGA's access schemes rather than sold off the shelf. There are now hundreds of products, from big brands to cheaper generic-style flower and oils. We explain the language so you can have a better conversation with your doctor and pharmacist.

Traditions and rituals

Cannabis has been part of human ritual for thousands of years, and Australia has its own story, from a hemp colony to Nimbin's MardiGrass. We dig into the history, the gear and the sessions that make up the culture.

FAQ

Good questions.

The ones we get asked the most. Got another? Ask us and it might become an article.
Is cannabis legal in Australia?

Medicinal cannabis is legal with a prescription. Recreational cannabis is still illegal everywhere except the ACT, where adults can hold a small amount and grow a couple of plants at home under ACT law. Federal law still applies, so read up before you assume anything.

Is vaporising cannabis healthier than smoking?

Vaporising heats cannabis without burning it, so you avoid most of the tar and combustion by-products that come with smoke. Most people find it smoother and more flavourful. It isn't risk-free, and if you're a patient, talk to your doctor about the best way for you.

What are generic medicinal cannabis products?

It's the informal name for lower-priced flower and oils sold without a big brand behind them. Many are perfectly good; quality varies. Look at the cannabinoid and terpene info, the producer and the reviews, and ask your prescriber.

How do I get medicinal cannabis in Australia?

You need a prescription from a doctor who can prescribe it, usually through a GP or a specialist cannabis clinic. Your script is then filled by a pharmacy. We cover clinics, sourcing and access in our guides.

Is FAB's content medical advice?

No. FAB is education and lived experience. Talk to a doctor about your own situation.
